Abstract:

Irrespective of whether the knowledgeable employee chooses to continue in the later stage of one's professional journey, the practice of employee engagement will be instrumental in achieving the objective of knowledge retention. As such, there should be incremental tendencies in the employees to contribute wilfully and/or generously towards retaining knowledge for organisational sustainability ‐ while this can be best facilitated by engaging the employees in a viable organisational environment. To this end, we present a schematic model incorporating the main idea of employee engagement being the best strategic practice to promote knowledge retention in order to achieve organisational sustainability in the future. This offers a novel perspective in this domain of qualitative research and may allow scholars to further think about how to nurture and manage employees' engagement to attain high levels of knowledge retention for organisational sustainability.
