Traffic behaviour at diverges on dual carriageway roads

In order to give a better understanding of traffic behaviour at diverges, traffic interaction at diverges has been studied and a simulation program which models lane changing behaviour on multi-lane highways has been developed. The study described in this paper is based on the analysis of video films recorded in the vicinity of diverge sections at three sites on dual carriageway roads. The assumptions made in developing the model are based on observations and results obtained from these surveys and data recorded by other researchers.
