We develop a contingency planning model for supply chains with dual sourcing. We model the response characteristics of the backup supplier with congestion effects. Supplier response speed is selected to mitigate major disruptions. We report the impact of ignoring congestion in various risk settings. Considering congestion is especially critical for risk‐neutral decision makers.
