With the proliferation of low-cost carriers in recent years, an increasing number of markets are being priced with less restricted fare structures than were formerly in place. This has led to a violation of the assumption of independence of demand between fare classes, which is implicit in most commonly used forecast systems. Airlines are investigating different approaches to maximise revenue in this new environment.
