Abstract:

In this paper the authors propose a new approach to the design and implementation of decision support systems for organizational decision making, and discuss the effect of such a system in an oil refining company. They conclude from this analysis that such a system, properly designed and embedded in an organization, is useful not only for efficient and effective decision making, but also for improvement of both the total performance of the organization and of individual members in various ways such as what-if analyses, organizational learning, alternative case generation, and, eventually, for inter-divisional conflict resolution.
