Engineers are not renowned for being at the forefront of organisational change initatives, nor is industry renowned for being the trigger of change in universities. This paper refutes these myths by indentifying a distinct paradigm shift in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Waterloo in Canada that was a response to industry's needs and to challenges faced by Canadian society.
