In the commercial world, he pursuit of new technology working practices has often been at the expense of equal regard for the correct methods and techniques to manage the new technology. The small business sector may be more vulnerable than larger businesses if a potential IT implementation is unsuccessful. However, a major advantage of this type of business is that communications between end-users and departments may well be stronger and more apparent than in larger companies. The implementation of technologies, such as a company-wide Management Information System, may have major organisational and cultural implications upon which this paper will focus. An approach is proposed for successful technology transfer which combines established research findings with ethnographically informed data from a UK-based Small to Medium sized Enterprise.
