Implementing airline origin and destination revenue management systems

Implementing an origin and destination (O&D) revenue management system is a very challenging endeavour for any airline. The projects typically take longer than planned and run over budget. This paper discusses the architecture of O&D systems, issues to consider when implementing the system, risks associated with system development and implementation, and ways of mitigating these risks. The focus of this paper is on the actual system implementation and builds on lessons learned from several O&D projects. A two-step process in proposed that will maximise the likelihood of a successful project completed on time and within budget.
