This paper discusses the experiences gained from the implementation of a large linear programming system on a personal computer for a client in the meat industry. The paper focuses on the use of a database for preparing and editing large amounts of data for input into a linear programming optimizer. Some useful pointers are given for others implementing similar systems. Finally, some thoughts are offered about the ideal linear programming system for large problems on a personal computer.
