Abstract:

This study uses a longiitudinal cross-sectional database to investigate individual firm strategic changes in the less-than-truckload sector of the US Motor Carrier industry. A new method of assessing year-to-year strategic change is developed. Results indicate that strategic change is influenced by both external and internal variables, including the macroeconomic environment, industry turbulence, deregulation, CEO change, firm age, and firm inertia.
