Abstract:

A particular logical flaw is continually being made in interpretations of Lanchester's equations. The fallacy will be exposed in this paper. Because of this fallacy, certain applications of Lanchester's N-square law of combat are invalid. Also, a popular method for empirically determining the functional form of the attrition equations is invalid. Correct interpretations of this situation are offered, and a logically sound approach is indicated.
