This paper describes the optimization of a textile process by means of two differing approaches: the use of a genetic algorithm and the use of an experimental design technique. It considers the efficiency of each method in reaching the optimum and the nature of the information obtained regarding the process. Consideration is given to the success of the optimization and the transferability of the approaches to otherindustrial processes.
