End user computing (EUC) is becoming an increasingly important activity in small firms. This paper explores factors influencing the sophistication and success of EUC in small businesses. Case studies of eight small manufacturing firms revealed both positive and negative influences of intra-organizational and extra-organizational factors on EUC sophistication and success. In addition, the case study results indicate a strong need for training and both internal and external EUC support for small firms.
