Recently, an optimum design techniques for optoelectronic devices has been proposed. Introduction of cost and search of a global minimum using simulated annealing enable an automatic optimization in consideration of various requirements on device characteristics. In this paper, the procedure to define cost function and execute annealing is firstly generalized. Next, the developed procedure is applied to the design of differential optical switches. Third, the optimized structures with different cost expressions or annealing parameters are compared and the setting basic are discussed. The obtained results are of benefit to application of the present design methods to any optoelectronic devices.
