Larson and Sadiq developed and analyzed a model for locating facilities on a Manhattan plane with impenetrable barriers to travel. Their principal result was that the search for candidate facility locations can be restricted to a finite, easily identifiable set of points. In this paper, the authors describe an implementation of Larson and Sadiq’s model in the ARC/INFO geographic information system. A sample case study based on data from the Town of Amherst (a suburb of Buffalo, N.Y.) is presented.
