Abstract:

This paper describes a case study that involved facilitating a day for all members of a community organisation to explore opportunities, possibilities and issues. In contrast to many case studies of community Operational Research OR which concentrate on methodology, the authors present one which privileges the process. For this reason they do not discuss much of the context. Instead the authors are concerned to examine how O(u)R practice does not fit in with a reasoned, rational process of selecting and applying techniques. The approach used here could be read as postmodern, where content and expertise are not privileged.
