Time-based competitors must continually reduce total value-delivery system lead time to develop and maintain a competitive advantage. A systematic approach is needed for monitoring all activities within the value-delivery system and for identifying specific improvement oportunities. A framework is presented for managing value-delivery system lead time reduction activities within a manufacturing firm. The framework is based on an empirical study of six world-class manufacturing organizations.
