Joint economically optimal design of nX and S2 control charts

Rahim et al proposed a search algorithm to determine the optimal design of joint nX and S² charts. However, their search algorithm is rather complicated. This limits the application of their method. This paper presents a search algorithm which is implementable in real time on a personal computer to obtain the optimal design of joint nX and S² charts. The results and the execution times of all numerical examples show that the search algorithm is accurate and efficient.
