Abstract:

Despite the fact that the relevant national legislation was amended in order to achieve compliance with the acquis communautaire of the European Union, Slovakia has met challenges in developing good practices of risk communication in the nuclear sector. The aim of this paper is to summarise the development of risk communication‐related legislation in Slovakia, to present the results of research of non‐governmental organisations’ experience with its implementation in the nuclear sector, and to outline the political and cultural factors that have influenced the recent development. The links between transparency, participation and knowledge management on the one hand, and historical, political and cultural factors on the other, are described using the results of research conducted within the ARGONA project in Slovakia.
