This paper describes a daily traffic forecasting method, which is a key aspect of predictive traffic administration. It is used for preventing traffic congestion by forecasting the time and scale of traffic problems. It is based on the statistical method known as Hayashi’s first method of quantification. The traffic on a specific day in the future is forecast using a representation of daily traffic variation based on calendar information. This method is shown to be practical for traffic administration of LS switches from accuracy estimation based on field traffic data. This paper also describes the function and the configuration of a traffic administration support system for LS switches, based on this method. This system can be put into use immediately because the traffic data from the existing LS-ATOMICS system is available for its input data. [In Japanese.]
