This paper discusses the process of selecting a data management system for a small business. Starting with discussion of the role of data management information systems and their significance to the small business executive, the paper discusses several types of data management systems available to the small business executive. Guidelines for the selection of an effective data base management system (DBMS) are then described. The proposed guidelines are both simple and useful in securing an appropriate DBMS without much effort.
