Abstract:

Since the last decade, Supply Chain Management (SCM) processes have become increasingly dependent on software packages, as the latter are one of the major drivers for the integration of supply chain processes. Such SCM software packages have increased in number, hence it is becoming more and more difficult for a supply chain manager to select the best SCM software package from the available packages in the market. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate an application of a Multicriteria Decision Model (MCDM) for the selection of an SCM software package from a number of available alternative packages based on factors. These factors are classified into critical, objective and subjective factors in the evaluation process and the selection procedure is demonstrated with a hypothetical case. It is believed that SCM managers can make use of the MCDM in making a decision as to which SCM software to invest in.
