Designing continuous flow manufacturing (CFM) facilities involves assigning a sequence of operations to facilities and solving a resource assignment subproblem to minimize machine acquisition costs, and location assignment subproblem to minimize transport costs. This paper presents a branch-and-bound based heuristic for developing CFM configurations used as part of a decision support system for CFM system design.
