This paper presents the design of a fuzzy controller for a production inventory system with deteriorating items, where the deterioration rate is unknown and the demand rate depends on the inventory level in a non‐linear relationship. The periodic‐review of this system is investigated. The control module uses a fuzzy logic controller. It simulates the decision support system to maintain the inventory of the finished product at the desired level, in spite of unknown items deterioration rate and non‐linear demand rate. The effectiveness of the proposed control model is illustrated by simulation.
