A number of different theories of social and organizational transformation have been proposed in recent years. This paper reviews these theories and identifies some of their key themes. A distinction is made between post-industrial and post-Fordist theories. The way in which these two perspectives view information systems is compared and implications for information systems research and practice are discussed.
