Kyoto University has been constructing the integrated information network system (called KUINS), which is intended to provide the infrastructure for an information system for scientific research, education and administration. This paper describes the configuration and the function of KUINS. A digital voice/data PBX and X.25 packet switching system make ISDN available on the campus. High speed fiber optic backbone LANs have intelligent MAC (media access control) bridge facilities and remote channel facilities. These devices are integrated into KUINS. The interconnection between ISDN and LAN is also discussed.
