This paper aims at illustrating how modern concepts for computer-based information systems can be used to enhance decision support systems for Manufacturing Planning and Control. The impact of relational data bases, 4th generation languages, graphics and simulation is discussed. The authors also discuss different planning systems and the support of these in modern computer-based MPC systems.
