The paper gives an overview of operations research in Iceland. Iceland, with a population of only 250000, presents a situation different from that in most other developed countries. Three facts characterize the use of Operational Research OR in Iceland: the country is small and isolated, fish and fish products constitute 70% of the nations’s exports, and the economy has been very unstable during the last few decades. Membership in ICORS (ICelandic Operations Research Society) has grown to 105 since the society was formed in 1985.
