Decisions concerning the number of new locomotives and coaches to buy are critical to InterCity’s future. Operational Research was called in to help in this decision for the newly-electrified East Coast Main Line route. Developing a new approach, Operational Research OR advised not only on this decision, but has now produced a computer-based decision-support tool for InterCity planners to use in determining medium-term strategy.
