From 1941 until 1945, a department of ORS (Fighter Command) was engaged on an elaborate analysis of fighter combat tactics and conditions, from careful study of thousands of films recorded in combat by a cine-camera synchronized with the guns. For each clear film the ORS assessors issued a report informing the pilot whether the attack had been carried out correctly and accurately and what damage, if any, had been inflicted on the target.
