Mathematics has been called the language of science. Mathematics is used to solve many real-world problems in industry, the physical sciences, economics, social and human sciences, engineering and technology, for example. We overview the many industrial problems that have been solved using fuzzy logic technology, multiobjective metaheuristics, neural networks, tabu search, genetic algorithms, simulated annealing, decision analysis, Petri nets, and queueing models. This overview could be useful for PhD students in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, and Operations Management who are looking to solve some real problems. Future industrial applications are also described.
