It is of great interest to operate a computer system with high reliability by applying fault-tolerant techniques. In this paper, the authors discuss maintenance policies based on retries to identify either a permanent fault or an intermittent fault in the system. Analysis by the Markov renewal processes, continuous time Markov chains and randomization techniques enables us to discuss the transient behavior as well as the steady state behavior. The optimal maintenance policies based on retries are discussed by showing numerical examples of the present analytical results. [In Japanese.]
