This is an extended abstract of a paper that was a finalist in the Manufacturing and Service Operations Management Society's 2004 Student Paper Competition. The longstanding problem of finding computationally efficient and provably good inventory control policies in supply chains with correlated and nonstationary (time-dependent) stochastic demands is addressed.
