This paper presents a simulation study to investigate the most effective product mix to provide the optimal operating characteristics of an assembly line in a high volume production environment. Features of the product combination which directly affect performance measures such as workcentre utilization and line capacity are assessed. This work illustrates the potential of discrete event simulation as a management tool in an assembly environment.
