Traveller behaviour in route selection is modelled assuming that alternative routes can be represented by system attirbutes which affect travel behaviour, and that routes are selected according to the weights (importance) travellers attached to these attributes. Using these weights the traffic volume on any (existing or planned) route can be predicted. The model is applied to the route selection decision for a trip in the San Francisco-Los Angeles air-travel corridor, and the results are quite satisfactory.
