Under controlled laboratory conditions, we examine the effects of variations in decision rules (DRs) on attitudes of individuals operating within groups. We find that significant changes in satisfaction and commitment occur across sessions when groups operate under a unanimity decision rule, but not when groups operate under a majority decision rule. We also observe that these two DRs produce opposing results both when there is membership continuity and when there is membership change.
