In their haste to implement Japanese manufacturing techniques such as just-in-time, American businesses face the possibility of resistance by labour unions. Potential conflicts lie in different primary objectives; JIT seeks to avoid waste and labour unions are concerned with job security. A strategy for a unionized manufacturer to minimize the resistance imposed by labour is recommended.
