Abstract:

Distinct differences between traditional American firms and Japanese firms operating in the United States are noted with regard to quality management. Japanese and nontraditional American firms add quality performance to financial measures before evaluating employee performance. Top managers in these firms are more persistent in implementing quality improvement programs, in contrast to less-than-total commitment by traditional American managers.
