Abstract:

This paper presents a multistage decision operator method for engineering optimization with discrete variables. By using the method, the discrete optimum design of trusses and the optimum stiffness distribution for shear-frames under a frequency constraint are solved successfully. Two examples are given in this paper; they are the optimum design of a 38-member truss and the optimum stiffness distribution of an 8-story frame.
