This study is to develop an optimal dwell point policy for automated storage/retrieval systems with uniformly distributed racks. For non-square-in-time racks, we present the closed form solution for the optimal dwell point in terms of the probability of the next transaction demand type: storage or retrieval. We also introduce various return paths to the dwell point for the efficient operation of the storage/retrieval machine.
