Classical approaches to cubic tables

This paper presents two methods for the exploratory analysis of cubic tables. Emphasis is given to the modelling stages involved in these and similar techniques, what motivates the concept of symmetric and asymmetric procedures. The information losses at each stage are evaluated, for both methods, in terms of chi-square differences. A discussion with other existing viewpoints and a brief example are also included.
