The effective analysis of industrial data is an important feature in the efficient management of industrial plant and equipment. Accordingly, and to ensure that the correct interpretation of developing situations is available for managerial decision making, robust yet straightforward analysis techniques are required. In this paper, typical level and demand changes which frequently occur in the manufacturing industry are analysed via simple mathematical modelling. The results are shown to yield techniques which are suitable for implementation in industry and which should help provide managers with a better understanding of the dynamics of manufacturing systems.
