An organization's structure significantly affects its performance. Because of the dynamic nature of the environment, an organization must be reconstructed with time. Based on the multi-criteria of the organization, this study develops mathematical models for the optimization of an organizational restructuring problem (ORP). A list of directed relations among units in an organization is assumed to exist. Given the definitions of hierarchical, combined and associated relations, a list of properties of an ORP is explored. In addition, we propose four algorithms designed to solve alternative ORPs. Finally, two numerical examples are employed to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed procedures.
