The process sequence cell layout (PSCL) approach involves allocating items of equipment to cells according to their position within the operation routeing of components. Each cell represents a stage in the processing sequence of all components manufactured within a company. It is proposed that by adopting PSCLs many of the benefits of operating kanban material control practices may be gained by organizations who produce, using batch manufacturing techniques, wide varieties of components in small annual volumes.
