This article describes the results of a study aimed at improving linen delivery operations in a large teaching hospital in Montreal. Improvements over the previous system were obtained by reassessing the quantities of linen to be delivered and by redesigning the delivery schedule. The problem was solved by means of a tabu search algorithm. After a trial period, the system has been implemented at the hospital.
