An uplifting experience – simulating the effect of new uplift facilities at the Cairngorm Ski Centre

A funicular railway is to be built to replace the main chairlift at Cairngorm and it is proposed to add a new beginners tow on the plateau area. A visual simulation model was built to assess the effects of these proposals on reducing the queueing problems that currently occur. This article describes how this was achieved and gives some results from the simulation. It was found that the effects on overall queue lengths were small.
