Abstract:

Selection procedures and elections often use a ranked voting system combined with a set of point values assigned to the various ranks. The winner is the one with the highest total points. However, the choice of the set of point values tends to be arbitrary. Stochastic dominance will be used to define a partial ordering of candidates in this situation. This shows the effect of choosing different point values and, in particular, determines all possible orderings of the candidates. Examples from sports competitions will be used.
