Abstract:

The use of computer based learning is now an integral part of the teaching in the Department of Management Science at the University of Strathcylde. The Department is the lead site for MENTOR, the consortium project of the UK Operational Research community. The aim of the MENTOR project is to ‘improve the effectiveness and the efficiency of teaching and learning OR/MS through the use of multimedia computer based learning materials’. This paper focuses on how this objective has been achieved through the use of MENTOR in teaching Operational Research/Management Science (OR/MS) at the University of Strathclyde. It pays particular attention to integration strategy, describing two different approaches which have been positively received by students. It begins with a discussion of the three key themes: effectiveness, efficiency and use.
