Abstract:

A favorable image and a convenient location are essential to attract customers into a store, possibly with the benefit of retailer advertising. Once inside, the customer’s buying decision will be greatly influenced by the products on display, their prices and other promotions. The ultimate profitability for the retailer will also depend on the efficiency of the operations. Advances in these areas are reviewed through twenty four publications in the last five years, with reference back to six earlier papers.
