Faced with growing instability along her borders, Greece has recnetly been forced to strengthen her defence capabilities to guard against potential hosilities. Coming at a time when many western nations are reducing their spending on defence, the need to ensure good value for the investment was all the more evident. The army identified its fleet of heavily armoured vehicles as the top priority for improvement. This article describes a practical approach to quantifying the value of a particular tank which in turn enables comparisons to be made between different tanks. Furthermore, the problem formulation permits sensitivity analyses which shed light on the importance of various model parameters to the final decision.
